Energy Markets:

Energy Deregulation, also known as “retail choice” has evolved on a state by state basis starting in the early 1980’s. Although the concept of deregulation is common to all the States, the actual rules vary by commodity (gas or electric), state, utility system and whether the service is for residential or commercial use. EnergyBidder interprets these diverse rules and provides you with a common platform for securing the best price for both gas and electricity in any deregulated state.

Typically energy deregulation begins when an enabling law is passed by the state legislature. These laws are then interpreted and enforced by the appropriate Public Utility Commission (PUC). The PUC’s have always regulated the gas and electric utilities in each state and now oversee the operation of “unregulated energy marketers”. Although these energy marketers are technically “unregulated”, the PUC is charged with the responsibility to make sure the marketers are financially sound and play by a consistent set of rules. EnergyBidder reviews the qualifications of all marketers and solicits bids on your behalf only from the marketers proven to be reputable, financially sound, and in good standing with the local PUC.

The Third Step

Not all states are currently deregulated so EnergyBidder can only solicit bids on gas and electricity in certain areas. The states that have authorized retail choice are shown to the left. EnergyBidder is not currently active in all these states but soon will be. Please check back if EnergyBidder cannot assist you in your state.
